Biography
Lydia Chapman
Lydia Chapman began her studies with a Foundation Year at Oxford Brookes University, followed by a year at Edinburgh College of Art, specialising in Fine Art Painting. She then spent four years at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, where she trained in the sight-size method, a traditional approach to portrait painting used by artists including Van Dyck, Velasquez and Sargent. Now based in London, Lydia focuses primarily on portraiture while also exploring landscape and still life. She works from her studio in Barons Court, where she paints both commissioned and personal work. Her practice is rooted in traditional observational painting, while continuing to explore colour, atmosphere and the character of her subjects.
